Lisa Stewart Studio

Lisa Stewart is an award-winning designer who brings a wealth of design experience and creativity to every project that EC Stewart Design and Communications undertakes. An accomplished artist and musician throughout her childhood in Michigan, she graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Graphic Design and Fine Arts. While in school, Ms. Stewart worked for a small advertising firm, gaining experience in a variety of areas and began publishing her own line of greeting cards showcasing her illustration skills. It was out of this work that ECS DC eventually grew.Following graduation, Lisa moved to Chicago to pursue her goal of becoming a working artist. While there she held a variety of positions including as a display artist, interior designer and graphic designer. In Chicago, Lisa also had her first experience with desktop publishing and Graphical User Interface (GUI) design - skills that would serve her well in the future. After several years freezing off her carcass in Chicago, Lisa escaped to the Triangle region of North Carolina. Once there she went to work for Acterna, a global telecommunications equipment manufacturer, as a designer and desktop publishing specialist. While at Acterna, Lisa was asked to develop and manage a number of internal and external Web sites for the company, eventually acting as a design lead on the redesign of the corporate Web site. This experience provided Lisa with the skills and motivation to make Web design and development the focus of her career. When Acterna made the decision to move much of its Web management out of RTP, Lisa moved on as well, taking a job with the newly formed e-commerce group at John Deere. There, as the senior Web designer, Lisa oversaw a number of aspects of the Web site for the commercial and consumer groups, but found herself more and more involved with her EC Stewart Design Studio freelance activities. When her position at John Deere was eliminated, and she was give the option of separation or reassignment, Lisa chose to focus on her own business and separated from the company.EC Stewart Design Studio was started in 1998 by Lisa as a way to formalize her freelance activities. Over the following three years it became a more prevalent part of her professional life and in the Fall of 2001 opened as a full-time Web design agency. Since then she has managed to develop a broad range of sustained client relationships and has seen the business grow to include marketing and communications consulting activities. These have added a benefit to her clients that they cannot get from a design only agency and provided the foundation for EC Stewart Design Studio becoming EC Stewart Design and Communications.Outside of her busy work schedule, Lisa is active in a number of professional organizations including leadership positions with Second Chance Pet Adoptions and Triangle Production Association (TPA). Additional memberships include AIGA, Trianglewebgrrls, the HTML Writers Guild, TAMMUG, TW^2 and TACS. Lisa has developed several Web sites to help people find adoptive homes for pets and rescued animals and from her love of animals, Calligraphy Cats, a new illustration series has been developed.Lisa also finds inspiration in travelling, indulging in her hobbies that include photography, painting, illustration and jewelry making and relaxing at home with her husband and three, er five cats.
