Komarov / Kisca
In 1978 we immigrated to the United States, penniless, with my husband and my 5-year-old son, from St. Petersburg, Russia. I had been invited to show my designs to the buyer of Saks Fifth Avenue and start my own apparel line. At that time, I didn’t have the finances or the knowledge to create a collection. Instead I went to Hollywood and became a Costume Designer for film.
20 years later, after over 30 films, 5 Emmys, I decided to realize my own dream and together with my son Dimitri, who is now 28 years old, and his childhood friend, also Dmitry, who is 30 years old, we started our own clothing line.
As a Costume Designer, I often travel around the world and live out of a suitcase. From my own experience, I know how difficult it is to maintain clothes. As the world is getting smaller and we spend more time traveling, working, exercising, etc., we have less free time than our mothers did. We just want to stuff them in a suitcase, unpack them and be ready to go to a nice dinner. After, you can throw them in the sink and have them clean by the morning meeting.
I create clothes that will for women’s lifestyles of the 21st Century. As a Costume Designer, I worked with many Silver Screen beauties such as Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Juliana Marguiles, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Loretta Young. They all loved my clothes and I would like you to try them. Best Regards, Shelley Komarov
