Fashion Design at Cornell University Department of Fiber Science & Apparel Design
“This is the only fashion program within the Ivy League. The program features a full range of fashion-centered teaching and learning opportunities, from design to product development, and fashion design management that are coupled to a formal liberal arts education, which by definition creates broad and informed thinkers. The undergraduate program, numbering about 90 students, educates and trains students for careers as designers, fashion design managers, product developers, and in other areas such as public relations, fashion marketing, and advertising. Undergraduates examine and experiment with creative concepts that include digital design, graphics, surface design and wearable art.
In addition to its long established Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Professional Studies (MPS)programs Cornell University developed the first dedicated Apparel Design Ph.D. program several years ago with the ambition to educate and train future fashion design faculty, critics of fashion, and highly resourced designers. The graduate program, focuses on independent research projects, enables students to learn and use creative and analytical skills to gain comprehension and recognition of design’s potential within society. At Cornell, graduate students tailor their programs to specific research interests with the guidance of individual Special Committees of faculty members. Graduate assistantships are available.”
