The Code is re-invented. Demna Gvasalia at Vetements and Balenciaga has spearheaded a movement to turn fashion upside down. It’s about breaking the fashion system of “collections” and dressing in anonymous separates. The wearer of Code expresses forward ambiguity in her new urban uniform. Set against an industrial or institutional setting, fabrics are as normal as they come, yet proportions are greatly exaggerated. Active elements like sweatshirts, t-shirts or puffers are not intended for performance, rather for comfort and an anti-establishment statement. Graphics add to the non-descript vibe of Code, with empowering statements and bold wordplay.
