MENS MARKET: MEMBERS ONLY
The refined gentleman takes center stage in Members Only - heavily inspired by the English countryside and time-honored gated estates. The luxury of wealth and its exclusivity is evident through tailored, debonair looks, and this globe-trotting aristocrat is in awe of high-end goods and utmost quality. Button-down collars, cuff straps, and selvedge details characterize the head-to-toe look, while refined washes like silver-grey, vintage blue and raw denim denote the feel of the sophisticated man. Valentino epitomized ultimate luxury with his streamlined denim pieces, Dior fused streetwear staples with dapper suiting, and Ellus showcased the denim cape as the update to the traditional English gentleman overcoat.
THE RUNWAY INFLUENCES
CONTEMPORARY MENS: POLAR VORTEX
When the Polar Vortex hit the North East coast of the United States, temperatures fell to unprecedented lows. Arctic mountains became part of the cityscape and drudging through snow-filled streets was a common daily occurrence.
For Fall 15/16, Polar Vortex presents the rambunctious side of Earth’s crazy climate. There’s also a sense of dichotomy present: fire and snow, ice castles and caves, and frozen water and surf. Borg collar detailing, leather and fur accents, and overstuffed quilting epitomize the theme. Kit Neale added the explorer element with vibrant prints and traveler accessories, Lou Dalton fused wintery Fair Isle patterns with a new tie dye bleach wash, and Sibling furthered the theme by blending energetic knits with vintage blue denim and contrast indigo knee patches.
THE RUNWAY INFLUENCES
CONTEMPORARY MENS: DARK DYNASTY
A nefarious and regal aesthetic rules over the Dark Dynasty theme, referencing both the Tudors and the Victorian era - time periods with great change and social upheaval. A darkly gothic feel is created through gargoyles and dungeons, while eerie castles and knights in shining armor add an element of a conquered kingdom. Clustered embellishments, floral embroidery, decorative studding, and medieval motifs reference a dark historicism. Tonal stripes, paint splatters, marble blue and deep charcoal washes create a mystic sensibility. Dolce and Gabbana adorned models in coronets and bejeweled gauntlets to create the appearance of young lords, John Richmond teamed a clean black jean with regal-printed shirting, and Roberto Cavalli applied a gold foil finish to stiff raw denim, evoking a sense of grandeur and majesty.
